As promotions for Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious epic Ramayana begin, actor-producer Yash and producer Namit Malhotra presented the film at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, offering a glimpse into its grand vision and global ambitions.
Based on the ancient Indian epic, the film follows Lord Rama, played by Ranbir Kapoor, as he battles Ravana after the abduction of Sita, portrayed by Sai Pallavi. Yash, who essays Ravana, spoke about bringing depth to the character. “I have tried to internalise… the whole essence of Ravana and tried to make him as human as possible at times,” he said, adding that “it’s important for people to relate to him.”
While the teaser drew praise for its scale, some viewers criticised the design of certain characters for appearing too Western. Addressing this, Yash explained, “Since we have global ambitions, we need to make it familiar to a Western audience as well.”
Producer Namit Malhotra echoed this vision, describing the film as a blend of global storytelling styles. He said the project combines fantasy and human drama, inspired by large-scale international films. “It will promise a very different experience, unlike anything that traditional Indian movies offer or even Hollywood, for that matter. It’s meant for the world, and it’s got the best of the East and the best of the West coming together to make it happen.”
Also featuring Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, Ramayana is mounted on a massive budget, making it one of the most expensive Indian films ever. The two-part epic will release during Diwali 2026 and 2027.
