Actor Yami Gautam has responded after social media users noticed that she had liked a video criticising Kriti Sanon’s Best Actress win at the Zee Cine Awards. Addressing the controversy Yami said the action was not deliberate and may have happened accidentally while browsing through tagged posts.

Taking to X, Yami explained that celebrities are tagged in numerous posts daily and sometimes interactions occur unintentionally. She clarified that the ‘like’ was not a conscious action and that she has no intention of endorsing content that belittles another actor.”

It has come to my notice that I apparently ‘liked’ a reel that is condescending toward another actor. We get tagged in multiple things every day and this appeared during an award function reference like any other tag. It isn’t true and was definitely not done consciously; if anything it may have been clicked accidentally,” she wrote.

Yami also addressed the speculation around the incident stating that she has never engaged in publicity tactics that involve pulling down others. She emphasised that she has always focused on her work rather than participating in online gossip or controversy.

“Never in my life have I resorted to cheap PR tactics. I have always focused on my work and moved on” she added, noting that in the age of clickbait, even small social media actions can quickly turn into headlines.

According to Yami she does not rely on a public relations team and has previously expressed her views about entertainment award shows. She reiterated that her attention remains firmly on her projects and professional commitments.

The clarification came after Kriti Sanon won the Best Actress award for her role in Tere Ishk Mein at the Zee Cine Awards. Soon after the ceremony, a video began circulating on Instagram questioning the decision and comparing Kriti’s win with Yami’s performance in Haq. The clip included a past interview of Yami talking about not seeking validation through awards.

Some viewers interpreted Yami’s ‘like’ on the video as a sign that she agreed with the criticism directed at Kriti. This sparked debate online, with some users accusing her of indirectly shading the award winner, while others defended both actors and called the reaction unnecessary.

On the work front, Kriti Sanon was last seen in Tere Ishk Mein a romantic drama directed by Aanand L Rai and co starring Dhanush. The film is described as a spiritual successor to Raanjhanaa.

Yami Gautam meanwhile, appeared in the courtroom drama Haq, directed by Suparn Verma alongside Emraan Hashmi and Sheeba Chaddha.
