Falaq Naaz, whose fame arose from numerous television roles and her recent stint on Bigg Boss OTT 2, made serious allegations about how “casting” is done in the Indian entertainment industry. She claimed that astrology is being used for casting right now and warned aspiring actors to beware of this ‘new phase’ in casting decisions. She recounted how one well-known producer selects actors based on their astrological birth charts.

Did Falaq Naaz throw shade at Ekta Kapoor?

Many users on social media are assuming that Falaq Naaz did in fact shade Ekta Kapoor even though she did not name anyone specifically. In her video, Falaq stated that producers show an actor’s astrological chart (also known as their “Kundali”) to the Priest as part of the process for casting for a series before beginning the show.

She continued stating that she has never worked with that particular producer because she does not agree with this practice. Falaq explained that in her opinion, she does not refer to her astrological chart (her “Kundali”) as part of her talent, but that she has been working for 14-15 years and that her talent comes from acting.

What kind of reaction did fans have?

When Falaq Naaz’s video went viral, it started to get a lot of attention from the public. According to one Reddit post, a user suggested that Ekta Kapoor casts actors based off of their Kundali’s, sparking debate among other commenters. Though Falaq didn’t specifically mention anyone in her comments, the general consensus among many social media users was that Ekta was one of the actors she was indirectly commenting on.

Some commentators questioned the validity of some casting decisions made by other creators and even referenced past statements made by Iqbal Khan, who claimed that Ekta Kapor uses Kundali to determine whether or not to cast an actor.

Falaq has made it very clear that she does not support the use of Kundali as criteria for casting decisions. According to Falaq, using Kundali when casting actors makes little sense because marriages are known to fail even when the husbands and wives’ Kundali’s match perfectly. She stated that she would never want to be associated with that type of act as it is unfair and illogical.
