When Anushka Sharma Said Divorces Happen Because Women Are Becoming Independent

Anushka Sharma’s old interview on divorce and women’s independence is resurfacing online for its honesty and relevance.

Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma has always been known for her candid opinions, and one of her old interviews has resurfaced online, once again igniting discussions around divorce, women’s independence, and evolving relationships in modern society.

During the interview, Anushka shared a thoughtful perspective on why divorce rates may be rising. While acknowledging that her view could be subjective, she suggested that society is still adjusting to women becoming more independent and self-reliant.

“I might be totally wrong about it, but I believe that women today are changing and people are unable to adjust with it… at least some men are unable to adjust with that probably,” she said, striking a chord with many listeners.

According to Anushka, women’s financial independence has significantly altered traditional marital dynamics. She pointed out that marriage is no longer centered on security or dependence, but rather on emotional compatibility, respect, and shared values.

“Today women are changing, their thinking pattern is changing, their beliefs are changing. Somewhere the equation that was there between a man and a woman is not the same anymore,” she added, highlighting how independence has reshaped expectations within relationships.

Beyond relationships, Anushka also addressed gender bias in the film industry. She strongly emphasized that actresses deserve far more appreciation for their performances and contributions.

“I think actresses have always been very good performers. Actresses should be hyped more. Actors are over-hyped,” she stated, calling attention to the imbalance in recognition within Bollywood.

In the same interaction, Anushka spoke fondly about her professional relationships with co-stars Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor. She revealed that Ranbir holds a special place in her life, especially due to the bond they formed during a difficult phase in their careers.

“Ranbir is my all-time favourite,” she admitted, explaining how working together on Bombay Velvet—a film that underperformed at the box office—brought them closer. “During a bad time, you become better friends because you have company,” she shared.

Years later, Anushka Sharma’s words remain strikingly relevant, reflecting conversations society continues to navigate about independence, equality, and redefining relationships in a changing world. Today she has sacrificed her career and is taking care of her kids Vamika and Akaay and is living happily with star cricketer husband Virat Kohli.
