Vivek Oberoi Breaks Silence On Claims Linking Accident To His Exit From Bollywood

Vivek Oberoi reacts to claims linking his on-set accident to an alleged exit from Bollywood.

Vivek Oberoi has responded to recent claims suggesting that a serious accident he suffered during the filming period of Yuva (2004) impacted his ability to perform physically demanding roles and contributed to his supposed exit from the Hindi film industry.

The speculation gained traction after celebrity fitness trainer Vinod Channa spoke about Oberoi’s injuries, with sections of social media and media reports interpreting the incident as a turning point in the actor’s career. Addressing the narrative, Vivek has now issued a detailed clarification, firmly stating that the accident did not force him out of Bollywood.

In an official statement, Vivek confirmed that the accident was indeed serious. He sustained multiple fractures and underwent surgery that involved the insertion of an 18-inch titanium rod in his leg. However, he emphasised that this was followed by a structured and successful recovery.

“The accident was serious. I sustained multiple fractures and underwent surgery, which included the insertion of an 18-inch titanium rod in my leg. Recovering from it was challenging, both physically and mentally,” Vivek said.

The actor credited Dr Ali Irani, former physiotherapist for the Indian Cricket Team and Head of Physiotherapy at Nanavati Hospital, for helping him regain full mobility within approximately three months. Vivek noted that the expert care and rehabilitation allowed him not only to walk again but also to dance and perform demanding action sequences shortly after recovery.

Reflecting on his journey, Vivek described the accident as “a blip” in an otherwise fulfilling career. He highlighted that after the incident, he went on to deliver physically intense performances in films such as Omkara (2006), Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007), Mission Istanbul (2008), Prince (2010), and Krrish 3 (2013), among others.

“It is because of this care that I was able to seamlessly perform some of my most challenging roles, pushing the envelope in the craft I love without compromise,” he added.

Vivek’s statement directly addresses and counters the assumption that his accident led to an exit from the industry, reaffirming that his career choices and trajectory were not dictated by physical limitations.
