Long before he became one of the biggest stars in Indian cinema Shah Rukh Khan was quietly beginning his acting journey through television and theatre. While many fans know that the superstar made his Bollywood debut with Deewana, very few are aware that he had already appeared in a film several years earlier.

In the late 1980s, Shah Rukh Khan gained popularity through television shows such as Fauji, Circus and Dil Dariya. These performances helped him build a loyal audience and made him a familiar face among viewers even before his entry into mainstream Hindi cinema.

However, in 1989 Khan had already made a brief appearance in the English language television film In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones. At the time the project was created specifically for television and aired only once on Doordarshan which meant that it remained largely unknown to the wider public for decades.

The film has now received renewed attention after being restored in 4K by the Film Heritage Foundation. The restored version recently premiered at the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival where it received appreciation from audiences and critics for its unique storytelling and nostalgic portrayal of student life.

Following the international premiere the film is now set for a limited theatrical release across India on March 13, 2026. The re-release gives audiences a rare opportunity to watch one of Shah Rukh Khan’s earliest onscreen appearances on the big screen.

In Hyderabad, screenings will take place at PVR Cinemas & Nexus Mall Kukatpally. The show timings include March 13 at 7:00 PM, March 14 at 7:00 PM and March 15 at 4:15 PM and 7:00 PM.

The film was directed by Pradip Krishen and written by acclaimed author Arundhati Roy who also appeared in the movie as a rebellious student named Radha. The story follows Annie, played by Arjun Raina an architecture student navigating academic struggles, strict professors and the chaotic charm of college life in 1970s Delhi.

Interestingly the film also features a brief appearance by Manoj Bajpayee. At the time both Bajpayee and Shah Rukh Khan were active in Delhi’s theatre circuit and were still far from the nationwide recognition they would later achieve.
