Rashmika Mandanna Explains Why Her First Film With Salman Khan Didn’t Work

Rashmika Mandanna reflected on the underperformance of Sikandar, admitting that the film gradually turned into something very different from what…

Rashmika Mandanna, the film’s heroine, talked about the box-office disaster of Sikandar where she performed with Salman Khan under the direction of A.R Murugadoss. The movie’s production was already over-budget, and then it surprisingly gave such a poor performance that even the low expectations of the studio were not met. Not to mention the Eid release-the highest viewing holiday-and Salman Khan’s project part turned into a complete flop. The audience was nowhere numerically near the hype.

In a recent interview by “peso Telugu” female journalist Prema, Rashmika confessed that the storyline she was shown at the time of the script reading was very different from what the audience finally saw in the movie.

Besides, she indicated that such evolution-the story going through to the very end of editing, changes in acting, or production decisions-is quite common in the film industry. She might have even implied that these changes influenced the film’s reception.

Sikandar was believed to be a movie with a production cost of around ₹200 crores, but the film could not even reach the box-office equal to a Salman Khan release during holiday time with the exception of film-viewing during the festival season.

In addition, the film stirred up controversies behind the scenes: Murugadoss was the first to mention the loss and attributed it to language barriers and production problems, which Salman responded by saying that he had been so devoted to the role and made comments about the director’s behaviour during the promotion.

By the remark, Rashmika is not only engaging in the debate regarding the reasons leading to the failure of a film with such a magnificent cast and great expectations overflowing, but she is also indicating artistic changes during the shooting.
