The first glimpse of Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, has triggered a wave of reactions across the film industry and among audiences. While many praised the scale and ambition of the project, veteran actor Sunil Lahri offered a more critical perspective on Kapoor’s appearance in the role.
Sunil Lahri, best known for playing Lakshman in Ramanand Sagar’s iconic television adaptation of the epic, recently spoke about Ranbir’s look as Lord Ram. He noted that although Kapoor is a talented actor, his portrayal seems to lack a certain gentle quality that is often associated with the character. According to Lahri, Lord Ram is usually seen as calm, soft, and full of grace—traits he feels are not strongly visible in the current depiction.
He also pointed out that Kapoor’s overall screen presence appears slightly intense for the role. In his view, this makes the character feel a bit harsher than expected. Lahri added that the innocence and emotional purity traditionally linked to Lord Ram seem somewhat reduced in this version.
Despite these observations, Lahri did not dismiss Kapoor’s abilities. He acknowledged that acting performances can evolve beyond first impressions and expressed hope that the final film might present a more balanced and emotionally engaging portrayal. He also emphasized that judging a character solely based on a brief teaser may not give the complete picture.
The teaser, released recently, has already created significant buzz for its grand visuals and modern storytelling approach. However, it has also opened up discussions about how mythological characters should be represented on screen and whether contemporary interpretations can match the emotional depth of earlier versions.
As anticipation builds, audiences remain eager to see how Ranbir Kapoor ultimately brings Lord Ram to life in this ambitious cinematic retelling.
