Veteran actor Rajpal Yadav with a perfect sense of comic timing has recently revealed heartwarming details of his working relationship with superstar Shah Rukh Khan. After appearing in such hits as Kal Ho Naa Ho, Bhoothnath and Billu, Yadav made some high remarks regarding the humility of SRK and his buried talents as an actor, stating that the world has not yet seen a titan of his acting skills.
In an interview, Rajpal re-explored a particular incident on the sets of Billu when he directly confronted the superstar by asking him, When will you act? meaning that he will cease to play the larger-than-life hero roles that he has been playing and instead focus on more character-driven roles. Rajpal reports that Shah Rukh answered with a wise smile that so long as he is in the role of one of the main entertainers, he will give what the director and the viewers want. Nevertheless, Rajpal does not doubt SRK as a three dimensional actor who can perform a masterful mimicry and a variety of characterizations that go well beyond his existing stardom.
Rajpal also remembered their initial years of shooting Kal Ho Naa Ho, on how the supportive SRK was and created an instant connection. The mutual interaction between the superstar and the collaboration despite the rehearsal on different sides of a room was effective. Rajpal also added that whenever they have done a movie together, the two always loved each other, and that they would be working with someone as talented as SRK; it feels like a sort of destiny.
As Rajpal Yadav gears up to his next project, the Priyadarshan-directed horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla with Akshay Kumar, his ode to Shah Rukh Khan reminds of the respect among industry veterans. He was sure that even though SRK has been the ruler of heroism in the decades, his most important period as a pure character actor is ahead of him.
