In response to allegations that she has been buffering her way to international success, she discounted the story as a misconception of her life, as well as, of the entertainment industry itself. Priyanka indicated that this scrutiny usually increases when actors are transferred across an industry or even a country.
Her move out of Hindi to Hollywood of the last 10 years has often been discussed as a strategic rebranding, yet she emphasized that evolution is always an aspect of any long career. In her opinion, the fact that the success overseas just needs to be PR-driven does not take into account the years of preparation, auditions and the risk taking that needs to be taken to build credibility in a new market.

The actor also noted that during the social-media era, rumours and commentary can spread so fast, and it is not hard to make speculative narratives work. Nonetheless, she was sure that the main reputation of an artist is the result of constant work rather than the effect of the publicity cycle. She made her point to the audience and it was that, rather than analyzing each career move as a PR gimmick, one should understand the hard work and perseverance in nurturing creativity.
