Priyanka Chopra is all set to return to the action genre with her upcoming film The Bluff, and this time the motivation behind her fierce performance comes from a very personal place motherhood.
The actor who welcomed her daughter Malti Marie a few years ago recently spoke about how being a mom deeply influenced the way she approached her character in the film. According to Priyanka understanding a character’s emotional drive is what truly makes an action story connect with the audience.
In a conversation with ANI she shared that action scenes without purpose can feel repetitive. For her the real power of the role came from asking one simple question how far can a mother go to protect her child?
I just had my daughter when I started filming. She was around two years old. And I kept thinking agar uske peeche koi aaya toh main toh todh dungi na insaan ko, she said. That raw emotion became her “North Star” throughout the film.
Priyanka plays Mary a former pirate who is trying to leave her violent past behind and build a peaceful life with her family. But when danger returns she is forced to step back into her old ways. Describing the role Priyanka said Mary is not someone who follows rules she’s gritty, fearless and will do whatever it takes to keep her loved ones safe.
And while the emotional side of the character came naturally, the physical preparation was anything but easy.
For The Bluff Priyanka had to undergo intense training especially in sword fighting and combat techniques. She spent weeks learning how to handle weapons with precision, even practicing with both hands to make the action look convincing on screen.
Set in the late 19th century Caribbean The Bluff tells the story of Ercell “Bloody Mary” Bodden, a former pirate queen who is trying to live a quiet life on a remote island. However her past catches up with her forcing her into a fight she can’t escape.
Directed by Frank E. Flowers and co-written with Joe Ballarini, the film promises a mix of action, emotion, and drama. The Bluff is set to release on Prime Video on February 25, 2026.
