Prakash Raj Slams Tamil Nadu Governor, Supports Vijay’s Right to Form Government

Prakash Raj criticised the Tamil Nadu Governor and backed Vijay’s right to form the government after TVK’s strong election performance.

Actor Prakash Raj has criticised Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar after Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), were asked to prove majority support before forming the government in Tamil Nadu.

The controversy began after TVK emerged as the single-largest party in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, winning 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly. However, the party still fell short of the majority mark of 118 seats. After joining hands with Congress, the alliance’s total reached 112 seats.

A user on X shared a video of Vijay heading to meet the Governor and wrote that an “appointed guy” was “playing games with elected MLAs.” Reacting to the post, Prakash Raj strongly defended Vijay’s right to form the government.

“This Governor’s behaviour is Disgusting .. unacceptable and unconstitutional. We may have differences … but Vijay has got the mandate . He should be allowed to claim his right on the floor of the house. #justasking,” Prakash wrote on X.

In another post, he added, “Respect people’s Mandate and let Vijay claim his right to form the government #justasking.”

Reports suggest the Governor asked Vijay to submit proof of majority support and a list of supporting MLAs before staking claim. Party leaders are now reportedly exploring legal options.

The election result marked a major political shift in Tamil Nadu, with TVK challenging long-dominant parties like the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
