Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge, both created by Aditya Dhar, feature the character of an Indian spy who infiltrates a Baloch criminal gang operating within the city limits of Lyari with the purpose of dismantling a terrorist organization. Both films also feature Ranveer Singh and Sara Arjun as leading actors, and they portray Lyari as having been adversely influenced by the effect of gang conflict.
Recently, an influencer from India reached out to a man from Pakistan via Instagram to get his opinion about the films, and they discussed how accurately Aditya Dhar depicted Lyari in his story.
Pakistani reacts to Dhurandhar, calls it exaggerated
An Instagram creator Rohan Bhatia, known as @thebesharamfoodie, recently shared a video after meeting a Pakistani man in Bali and asking his opinion on Dhurandhar. The clip shows a casual conversation where they discuss how the film portrays Lyari and Karachi.
In the video, the man said he found parts of the film unrealistic and even amusing. He shared his perspective, saying, “Dhurandhar is a little overrated. There was a line that we Karachites found very funny. Whoever controls Lyari, controls Karachi. And whoever controls Karachi controls Pakistan. We Karachis say that Karachi is a non-native city. It’s a city for orphans or whatever. And you cannot control Pakistan from there,” says the man in the video, adding, “If you want to do it, it can be done from Lahore. For context, my family was originally from Lyari. There was, and there is some gang violence there. But, it’s just between two neighbourhood gangs.”
Pakistani viewers point out inaccuracies in Dhurandhar
In the same video, the Pakistani man and woman also spoke about certain scenes in Dhurandhar that they found unrealistic, especially regarding Sara Arjun’s character Yalina Jamali.Talking about her look, the man said, “The other thing that was very funny is that the girl is roaming around in a miniskirt.” The woman added, “There’s no way a woman can roam alone on the streets of Lyari in a miniskirt. That doesn’t happen.
”They also mentioned a party scene from the song sequence, pointing out details they felt were incorrect. The woman said, “There are no signs in Urdu, it’s just written in English.”While they appreciated the film’s visuals and enjoyed the song FA9LA, the man clarified, “The song was fun too, but it’s not a Balochi song. I’m a Sindhi Balochi, so I know what I’m talking about.” He also noted that the dressing style shown for Ranveer Singh’s character did not match what people typically wear in Pakistan.
