Prime Video has unveiled the much-awaited trailer of its upcoming original series Matka King, and it promises a gripping, high-stakes drama set in the bustling and evolving Bombay of the 1960s.

Headlined by Vijay Varma, the series is created and written by Abhay Koranne and helmed by filmmaker Nagraj Manjule. Backed by Roy Kapur Films, Aatpat, and SMR Entertainment, the show is set for a global premiere on April 17, exclusively on Prime Video across India and more than 240 countries.

The trailer offers a glimpse into the journey of Brij Bhatti, played by Vijay Varma—a sharp and ambitious cotton trader who dares to dream big. In a bold move, he transforms ‘Matka’, once an elite form of gambling, into a widespread phenomenon. But as the stakes rise, so do the consequences, setting the stage for a story packed with ambition, power struggles, and personal sacrifices.

Speaking about the series, Vijay Varma described the experience as both challenging and fulfilling. He shared that stepping into a completely new era added depth to his performance, and collaborating with creators who allowed creative freedom made the journey even more rewarding. According to him, Matka King explores universal themes of ambition and the cost of success, making it relatable to audiences worldwide.

Joining him in pivotal roles are Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Siddharth Jadhav, Bhupendra Jadawat, and Gulshan Grover, along with a strong supporting cast that adds depth to the narrative.

Kritika Kamra revealed that her role pushed her out of her comfort zone, allowing her to explore a character driven by ambition and resilience. Sai Tamhankar, who plays Brij’s wife Barkha, highlighted that her character is layered and independent, breaking away from typical stereotypes.

Producer Siddharth Roy Kapur emphasized that Matka King is a bold storytelling choice, blending a specific historical setting with universally relatable emotions. Director Nagraj Manjule added that the series goes beyond being just a period drama—it’s about a man striving for respect and reshaping the system around him.

With its intense narrative, rich period setting, and powerful performances, Matka King looks set to be a compelling watch when it premieres on April 17.
