Filmmaker Karan Johar has added his voice to the growing chorus celebrating Hindi cinema’s strong resurgence. Taking to Instagram Stories, Johar hailed the massive success of two recent releases, Dhurandhar and Border 2 and boldly proclaimed that Bollywood is “back to stay.”
In his note, Johar wrote that the “mega success of two recent back-to-back mega Hindi film successes” proves one thing beyond doubt — Hindi cinema still has immense drawing power when films strike an emotional chord with audiences. He also addressed critics head-on, stating that “naysayers can fly a kite,” a phrase that quickly grabbed attention online.

Johar’s comment about “incorrect terminology but here to stay” while using the word Bollywood also stood out, as the term has often been debated in recent years. Yet, his larger message was clear: scale, emotion, and storytelling continue to matter most, regardless of labels.

With Border 2 riding high on audience love and Dhurandhar delivering strong box-office numbers, industry insiders see Johar’s statement as a reflection of renewed confidence within the Hindi film industry. His emphasis on films crossing “borders of excellence” when they emotionally connect with viewers underlines what many believe is driving the current upswing.
As theatres witness packed houses again, Johar’s declaration feels less like a prediction and more like a verdict — Bollywood’s comeback narrative is firmly in motion.
