Actor turned politician Kangana Ranaut has once again made headlines, reviving her long standing rivalry with filmmaker Karan Johar. This time, she also appeared to aim subtle taunt at Anurag Kashyap and Aditya Chopra. When asked to choose between the three directors, Kangana brushed off the comparison entirely, remarking that the options did not meet her level of expectations.

Kangana Ranaut To Karan Johar… Again!

Kangana Ranaut attended an interactive session at the News18 Rising Bharat Summit and afterward was a part of a rapid fire round on “Bollywood”. She also called Salman Khan “the coolest”; made negative remarks about various producers; and expressed who she believes is the best actress between Ananya Panday, Janhvi Kapoor, and Sara Ali Khan.

In a rapid-fire round, Kangana Ranaut was asked to choose one of the three Khans Salman, Shah Rukh, or Aamir for friendship. She was surprised by the question as she could not remember being friends with any of the three but thought that Salman was “a pretty cool guy.”

Kangana was then asked about the new generation of Bollywood actors. When asked who performed better out of Ananya Panday, Janhvi Kapoor, and Sara Ali Khan, Kangana thought for a moment and picked Ananya. When Kangana Ranaut was asked to pick one stand-out filmmaker from Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra, she declined to name one. Instead, she offered an indirect answer with a pointed comment appeared to indirectly demean all three filmmakers.

In response to Kangana’s comment about the cinema and her performance expectation being higher than what has been presented to her in this instance, she stated that “Meri jo filmmaking aur acting ke liye jo liking hai, mere standards itne low nahi jitne aapke hai. Kam se kam list toh achi banani thi”(When it comes to filmmaking and acting, my standards aren’t as low as yours. At the very least, you could have put together a better list.)

What is the origin of the conflict between Kangana Ranaut and Karan Johar?

The split between Kangana and Karan happened back in 2017 when she was a guest on his talk show, Koffee with Karan. During her appearance, she alleged that Karan had become the “flag bearer of Nepotism” and also went on to describe him as part of the “movie mafia”. This was the catalyst that ignited a massive debate in the industry about the way that Bollywood treated outsiders vs insiders within the industry, and had renewed and heightened their public war of words.

Kangana continues to accuse Karan of favouring star children and ignoring all the actors who do not come from a Bollywood family, which continues to heighten the level of animosity between the two of them.

What does the future hold for Kangana?

In her last appearance, Kangana acted in Emergency, which is a biographical drama about former prime minister Indira Gandhi; it received mixed critical reviews and had a few weeks of ok box office revenue, and she is working now on her next project, Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata.
