Inside Jackie Shroff’s sea-facing Mumbai home: Minimal design, rare art and a view worth a million

From M. F. Husain artwork to a serene ocean facing balcony Jackie Shroff's home blends simplicity, luxury and stunning privacy…

There’s something quietly striking about Jackie Shroff’s sea facing Mumbai residence, it doesn’t scream luxury, yet every corner reflects it. Clean lines, open spaces and thoughtfully chosen elements come together to create a home that feels both grounded and elevated.

When filmmaker Farah Khan recently visited the Shroff household, she was visibly taken aback. Walking into the expansive living area her first reaction summed it up: “Whose house is this?” To which Krishna Shroff casually replied, “All four of us live here.”

The house leans heavily into a minimalist aesthetic white walls, wooden flooring and a layout that prioritizes openness. The living room avoids clutter featuring just the essentials: a white sofa set, a wooden table, a couple of chairs and a sleek display unit. The result is a space that feels airy and calming rather than overdesigned.

Krishna shared that she and her mother were closely involved in designing the home from scratch. Their focus? Creating a space that feels warm yet uncluttered. “We like open space” she explained, pointing out how the wooden flooring adds a cozy touch without overwhelming the simplicity.

What truly sets the home apart is its art collection. Curated largely by Krishna’s mother, the house features works by some of India’s most celebrated artists, including M. F. Husain.

One standout piece, a chalk artwork on a blackboard caught Farah’s attention. Featuring a dancing figure alongside an elephant balancing on one leg, the piece carries Husain’s signature style. When Farah jokingly asked if it ever gets wiped off, Krishna reassured her that it remains untouched much to everyone’s relief.

There’s also a serene temple corner near the dining area, adding a spiritual touch to the otherwise modern setting. emple corner near the dining area, adding a spiritual touch to the otherwise modern setting.

If there’s one space that truly defines the house, it’s the balcony. Overlooking greenery and the ocean, it offers something rare in Mumbai privacy and uninterrupted views.

“This is the biggest luxury” Krishna said, pointing out the absence of nearby buildings. The balcony features a cozy seating area, along with a jacuzzi and an ice bath setup. It’s here that the family gathers in the evenings, soaking in sunsets that feel far removed from the city’s chaos.

The Shroffs have clearly blended wellness into their daily routine. Positioned near Tiger Shroff’s room, the jacuzzi and ice bath are part of a structured regimen. “Gym, then jacuzzi, then ice bath” Krishna shared, explaining how the combination helps regulate the nervous system.

Beyond the design and decor, the home carries emotional depth. During the visit, Farah met Sunita the family’s longtime house manager, who has been with Jackie since his early days in cinema. Having witnessed the family grow over decades her presence adds a layer of warmth and continuity that no design element can replicate.

Even Jackie himself made a brief appearance, describing his home in his signature candid style “Mera beta, meri beti, mera aurat mera billi, mera doggie sab.”

In a city where space is a premium and privacy even more so, Jackie Shroff’s residence stands out not for excess, but for restraint. It’s a home where art, nature, and lifestyle come together effortlessly proving that true luxury isn’t about how much you have, but how thoughtfully you live.
