The buzz around Dhurandhar 2 is growing stronger with each passing day. The highly anticipated action thriller starring Ranveer Singh, has already crossed the $2 million mark in advance bookings across North America signalling a massive opening for the film even before its release.
Directed by Aditya Dhar the film is the sequel to the blockbuster Dhurandhar and brings back Ranveer in the role of Hamza also known as Jaskirat Singh Rangi, an Indian spy operating in Pakistan.
The makers unveiled a four minute trailer over the weekend offering fans a deeper look into the world of the sequel. Advance bookings for paid previews opened immediately after the launch.
In the United States and Canada theatres began accepting bookings not only for premiere shows but also for the entire opening weekend. The response has been overwhelming. According to trade estimates, the film has already earned more than $750,000 from premiere shows alone.
Advance bookings for opening day have crossed the $1 million mark, while the overall opening weekend advance sales in North America have now surged past $2 million. With the film still more than a week away from its March 19 release the early numbers indicate a potentially record breaking start.
Advance bookings have also begun in India though currently limited to paid preview shows. Even with that restriction the film has already sold over 3.5 lakh tickets collecting around ₹19 crore in early sales.
Trade analysts believe the numbers will grow rapidly once full bookings open nationwide.
If the current trend continues Dhurandhar 2 could soon challenge some of the biggest records for Indian films in North America.
At present the biggest premiere for an Indian film in the US belongs to Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor which earned $1.2 million from paid previews. With strong pre sales already, Dhurandhar 2 appears well positioned to surpass that figure.
The film is also targeting the opening weekend benchmarks set by major pan India blockbusters such as RRR and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. Trade projections suggest the sequel could collect close to $4 million in its first weekend in North America if momentum continues.

Along with Ranveer Singh the film features a strong ensemble cast including R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi and Sara Arjun.
The first film in the franchise was a major box office success, reportedly earning around ₹1300 crore worldwide and over $20 million in the United States. With the sequel generating massive interest ahead of release expectations are high that it could replicate or even surpass that success.
