Bhumi Pednekar Took An Acting Break After Facing Trolling For The Royals

Bollywood actor Bhumi Pednekar has candidly spoken about taking a voluntary break from acting after experiencing massive online trolling following her Netflix project The Royals. While social media backlash can often spiral into noise, Bhumi says this phase forced her to take some of the most important decisions of her life.

“There was a lot of trolling, a lot of bots. But in between all that, there was also constructive criticism,” Bhumi shared. She revealed that the experience deeply impacted her and played a major role in shaping her choices for 2025. One of those choices was stepping away from acting altogether.

Bhumi clarified that she never formally announced her break because she did not want to dramatize it.

“I took a break. I haven’t been on a set since June. When actors admit this, there’s usually a negative connotation attached to it. But this was something I did voluntarily, and honestly, it’s the best decision I’ve taken for myself,” she said.

Instead of rushing back to work, Bhumi chose to invest time in herself. She spent months watching films, reading extensively, travelling, and even took a course at Harvard University to broaden her perspective. According to the actor, she felt she had run out of real life experiences to bring authenticity to her performances.

“I didn’t have any real experiences left in me that I could extend to my craft, and that scared me,” Bhumi admitted. One of her biggest fears, she said, was becoming mediocre. “I think I reached there, and it was important for me to accept that instead of being in denial.”

The actor also revealed that during this phase, she revisited her own work while questioning her abilities. “I went back and watched some of my performances because I was lost. I kept asking myself, can I actually act? Do I still have it in me?”

Bhumi’s honesty strikes a chord in an industry where burnout, pressure, and constant scrutiny are often masked behind glamour. Her decision to pause, reflect, and rebuild highlights a growing shift among actors who are prioritising mental health, self growth, and creative integrity over constant visibility.
