Bhumi Pednekar Admits Chasing A Rs 200 Cr Hit Made Her Pick The Wrong Role

Bhumi Pednekar recently acknowledged that she has made a few missteps in selecting roles in the past.

Bhumi Pednekar is unashamed of admitting that some of the choices she made in her profession did not lead to the outcome that she had wanted. Famous for her inspiring performances a selection of films including Dum Laga Ke Haisha-Saand Ki Aankh-Sonchiriya-and Badhaai Do – recently, through a conversation at the We the Women event, she gave insights into her efforts to develop an industry that is associated with meaningful performance based cinema by an audience.

What Bhumi has spoken

In response to the question about whether she considers any of her choices to be mistakes now that she has had some time to reflect on them, and whether there are any particular kinds of roles she wouldn’t take on at this point in her career based upon an example she would like to set for other women. The example she gave was when she accepted a role that ultimately undermined her own sense of agency and independence that she created through her work up until that point. She said that at times the temptation of being part of a big success at the box office (a movie that grosses around ₹200 crore) has influenced her decision-making process. However, she also indicated that there is a line that she refuses to cross: she will never play a role where women are treated with disrespect.

“I have put my heart into every movie.”

Bhumi Pednekar has said that she still finds herself doing movies where she doesn’t have much to do and, to her surprise, that isn’t something that she enjoys doing. She feels that audiences have had too much time to see how strong and performance based her roles have become for her to go back on her own image as well as on the image that they have built of her in the public’s eye. In Bhumi’s opinion, once compromising that standard of performance was one of her biggest mistakes and one that she would not ever make again. She stated that she chose to keep private the project she was talking about so that there would be no speculation or controversy.

Bhumi first found her footing in the business with Dum Laga Ke Haisha and the recent Prime Video show Daldal, which was directed by Amrit Raj Gupta and based on the best seller Dhamija’s Bhendi Bazaar. The cast also includes Samara Tijori and Aditya Rawal along with Geeta Agrawal, Chinmay Mandlekar, Ananth Narayan Mahadevan, Rahul Bhat, Sandeep Kulkarni, Shivraj Walvekar, Sandesh Kulkarni and Jaya Bhattacharya. Daldal was released on January 30.
