Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away at the age of 92, marking the end of a glorious chapter in Indian music. She breathed her last on Sunday at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai after suffering multi-organ failure. She had been hospitalised due to a chest infection and extreme exhaustion. A day later, her residence in Lower Parel was opened for loved ones and admirers to pay their final respects. Several actors and public figures took to social media, remembering her as an irreplaceable voice whose passing signifies the end of an era.

Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan paid tribute through an emotional note on his blog. He wrote, “Sorrow and grief. An entire era .. an incredible .. a phenominal, astounding, prodigious , presence … lost yesterday .. the iconic, legendary Asha Bhosle ji , has left us.”

He further added, “In immense grief .. Her versatility in giving life to every song she gave voice to .. gone to the heavens .. and has left us an entire encyclopedia of eternal music .. The body has left us .. but her soul shall remain forever with us ..Her voice – the soul, shall ever be immortalised ..🙏”

On Monday, Asha Bhosle was honoured with state respect as her mortal remains were draped in the Indian tricolour. Visuals showed her casket decorated with white lilies while soldiers paid tribute. The final respects will continue at her residence till 3 PM, after which the funeral procession will move to Shivaji Park Crematorium in Dadar, where her last rites will be performed at 4 PM.

Asha Bhosle is survived by her son Anand Bhosle and granddaughter Zanai. With a career spanning over eight decades, she remained one of the most celebrated voices in Hindi cinema. A recipient of multiple honours, she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer seven times and the National Film Award twice for songs like Dil Cheez Kya Hai and Mera Kuch Saamaan. She was also honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, leaving behind an unmatched musical legacy.
