Abhishek Bachchan On Parenting Aaradhya: Why He And Aishwarya Rai Believe In Leading By Example

Abhishek Bachchan opens up about how fatherhood changed his mindset and why he and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan avoid fixed parenting…

Abhishek Bachchan has often spoken about how becoming a father changed him, but his recent comments give a more personal glimpse into life at home with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and their daughter Aaradhya Bachchan.

In a candid chat with Lilly Singh, the actor shared a simple yet meaningful moment from Aaradhya’s childhood that made him rethink how he approaches parenting. What started as a casual interaction turned into a lesson he says he never forgot.

Abhishek recalled asking a young Aaradhya to get him a glass of water while she was watching TV. She quietly did it, but later flipped the situation. When she asked him for water and he refused, she questioned him why could he ask her, but she couldn’t ask him? That one question caught him off guard.

He admitted that he had no real answer in that moment. Instead, it made him reflect. “She’s right,” he realised, explaining that he couldn’t simply rely on being the parent to justify things. From that day on, he says, he chose not to “pull rank” or assert authority without reason.

This incident also reflects the parenting style followed at the Bachchan household. Abhishek shared that there are no fixed roles between him and Aishwarya when it comes to raising Aaradhya. Instead of dividing responsibilities into traditional categories, both focus on setting the right example through their own actions.

He explained that they don’t believe in assigning labels like who teaches strength and who teaches empathy. For them, parenting is more about everyday behaviour how they live, react and treat others. The idea is simple: children observe more than they listen.

According to Abhishek, trying to impose what is “right” or “wrong” doesn’t always work, especially in a world that keeps changing. What worked for one generation may not hold true for the next. That’s why he believes it’s more effective to show values through actions rather than instructions.

He also pointed out that there is no competition between him and Aishwarya about roles at home. Their focus stays on creating a balanced and respectful environment where Aaradhya can learn naturally.

Abhishek and Aishwarya, who got married in 2007, welcomed Aaradhya in 2011. Over the years, both have kept their family life relatively private, but moments like these offer a rare and thoughtful look into their parenting approach.

At its core Abhishek’s story highlights something simple yet powerful, sometimes children don’t just learn from us, they quietly teach us too.
