Bollywood actress Nushrratt Bharuccha recently found herself at the centre of a controversy after a video of her visiting the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain surfaced online. The visit, which the actress described as spiritually fulfilling, drew sharp criticism from a section of religious leaders.

According to reports by ANI, Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi, President of the All India Muslim Jamaat, objected to Nushrratt’s temple visit. He stated that participating in Hindu religious rituals is considered haram (forbidden) under Islamic law and went on to demand that the actress repent and recite the Kalma to seek forgiveness from Allah.

The controversy intensified after Nushrratt visited the temple for the second time and openly shared photos and videos from her visit on social media. Calling the temple “beautiful” and “deeply meaningful,” the actress spoke positively about the arrangements made for devotees.

In a video shared online, Nushrratt said, “This is my second visit to the temple. I really liked the way special arrangements are made and attention is given to even the smallest details for all pilgrims. So many people have come to seek Mahakal’s blessings before the New Year, and I also plan to come here every year.” She captioned the post with “Jai Mahakal.”

While the remarks by the cleric have sparked debate on religious freedom and personal faith, many netizens have come out in support of Nushrratt Bharuccha, defending her right to practice spirituality in her own way. The actress has not issued any direct response to the criticism so far.
