Harinder Sikka, the author of Calling Sehmat, the book that inspired Raazi, has stirred a fresh wave of conversation online after sharing an emotional and rather controversial note.
Following the success of Dhurandhar 2, Sikka reflected on his journey and spoke candidly about Raazi. In his post, he claimed that appointing Meghna Gulzar as the director of the film was his “biggest mistake”.
His statement has surprised many, especially considering the critical and commercial success Raazi enjoyed upon its release. The film, starring Alia Bhatt, was widely appreciated for its storytelling, performances and direction.
However, Sikka expressed that the film did not fully capture the true spirit of his book. He hinted at ideological differences and suggested that certain elements of the story were diluted in the cinematic adaptation.
He also highlighted that Calling Sehmat continues to be recognised globally as one of the top espionage books, adding that the story still has more to offer beyond what was shown on screen.
The timing of his statement, coming right after Dhurandhar 2’s success, has further fueled the discussion, with many drawing comparisons between storytelling approaches and creative choices.
Social media has since been divided. While some supported Sikka’s right to express his perspective as the original writer, others defended Meghna Gulzar and the film, calling Raazi a well-crafted and impactful adaptation.

The debate once again brings into focus the age old question of how closely films should stay true to their source material.
For now, Sikka’s remarks have ensured that Raazi is back in the spotlight, years after its release, proving that powerful stories continue to spark conversations long after they are told.
