Aamir Khan recently revealed that despite being one of Bollywood’s biggest stars, he rarely watches films. In an interview with Variety India, the actor shared that he prefers reading books over watching movies. He also spoke about his childhood, saying he grew up in a conservative household where romantic films were not allowed, which shaped his habits from a young age.

According to Aamir Khan, he actually watches very few movies and finds that a bit unusual about himself. However, he has always preferred reading. He continued, “I have been this way since I was a child. I have always been a reader. The films I have watched regularly are the black and white films or the really early films which were shown on Doordarshan (the television channel) before I grew up in a very conservative family. My parents did not allow me to see films in their entirety. So I have a memory of asking my mother if I could watch a movie, and her answer being yes, but all of the movies were romantic.”

He also shared that while growing up he mostly watched films on weekends, especially older movies featuring legendary actors like Ashok Kumar and Dilip Kumar. The actor added that he has also watched many regional films over the years. However, he admitted that even today he barely watches movies. He said, “I got into filmmaking at the age of 18. I started working as an assistant. I don’t want to sound patronizing, but just as a joke, I’d like to say that some people play football and some people watch football. That’s a good way to put it. I make films, I barely watch them. That’s the truth of the answer. I barely watch films. So, I don’t watch the latest movies. I have no idea what’s happening in Hollywood. I’m in my own world, I don’t really watch stuff.”

His honest confession has surprised many fans, especially since he is regarded as one of the most respected and influential figures in Indian cinema.
