Actor Rakesh Bedi is currently enjoying the success of Dhurandhar 2 but the veteran performer has once again opened up about a controversy that followed him after the film’s trailer launch event.
The issue stems from a viral video featuring Bedi and his costar Sara Arjun which sparked criticism on social media. In the clip, Bedi is seen greeting Sara on stage and some viewers interpreted the gesture as inappropriate, claiming it looked like he kissed her shoulder.
Responding to the backlash Bedi clarified that his actions were taken out of context. Speaking on a podcast, he explained that he has always shared a warm, fatherly equation with Sara who plays his daughter in the film. According to him during the shoot, he would often greet her with a hug and a peck on the forehead to make her feel comfortable before scenes.
He maintained that the same gesture was repeated at the public event, but it was misread by people online. “I’ve always treated her like a daughter” he said, adding that social media users tend to jump to conclusions without understanding the intent behind such moments.
While the criticism did affect him, Bedi acknowledged that not all reactions were negative. He expressed relief that some people came forward to defend him and understood his perspective. At the same time he took the controversy in stride, saying that public figures often become easy targets. Echoing a popular sentiment he remarked that people will always find something to talk about.
He had earlier addressed the issue as well questioning why anyone would assume ill intent in a public setting, especially when Sara’s family was present at the event. For him the outrage was unnecessary and driven largely by online speculation.
Despite the noise Bedi remains focused on the film’s success. Directed by Aditya Dhar Dhurandhar 2 has turned out to be a major box office performer since its release on March 19, drawing strong audience response across multiple languages.
The film stars Ranveer Singh in the lead role, alongside an ensemble cast that includes Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan and Sanjay Dutt. Building on the first installment the sequel expands the story of an Indian spy navigating dangerous territory while trying to dismantle a terror network.
With the film crossing the ₹500 crore mark in India, Bedi described its success as rare and deeply fulfilling. He noted that such milestones are not common in an artist’s career, making the moment all the more special.
