Dhurandhar 2 opens like a storm ₹240 crore worldwide debut rewrites box office history

The Ranveer Singh starrer Dhurandhar 2 has taken a huge opening at the box office, recording one of the biggest…

The box office has a new benchmark and it belongs to Dhurandhar 2. The Dhurandhar 2 frenzy translated into an extraordinary opening day haul as the spy thriller raced to ₹240 crore worldwide setting a new all time, record for an Indian film.

Directed by Aditya Dhar and headlined by Ranveer Singh the sequel arrived with very high expectations. Yet, even optimistic trade estimates didn’t quite predict the scale at which the film would explode at the global box office.

The momentum began even before release day. With the biggest paid previews ever recorded in Indian cinema, the film clocked ₹43 crore net domestically and ₹75 crore gross worldwide on Wednesday alone. That early surge meant Dhurandhar 2 had already crossed the ₹100 crore gross mark before its official opening day had fully unfolded.

On Thursday, the film only accelerated. It collected a massive ₹102 crore net across India in a single day now the highest ever one-day collection for a Hindi film. This pushed its domestic total to ₹145 crore net (₹174 crore gross) within just 24 hours.

The film’s reach extended beyond metros drawing strong footfall in tier 2 and tier 3 cities, further cementing its pan India appeal.

Internationally, the film pulled in close to $7 million on day one, taking its overseas total past $9 million. What makes this even more impressive is the absence of festival boosts outside India, unlike the Ugadi and Gudi Padwa advantage in domestic markets.

With a ₹240 crore global opening, Dhurandhar 2 has comfortably surpassed the previous Bollywood record set by Jawan (₹129 crore). It has also outperformed other major Hindi releases like Pathaan and Animal.

The film has gone beyond Bollywood benchmarks overtaking the opening day worldwide numbers of pan-India blockbusters such as RRR, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, Kalki 2898 AD, and KGF Chapter 2.

The success isn’t entirely surprising given the massive goodwill of the first film. Dhurandhar: The Revenge had wrapped up its theatrical run at ₹1300 crore worldwide and continued to draw audiences months after release. The sequel builds on that legacy with a larger scale, bigger action set pieces, and a returning ensemble cast including R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal and Sanjay Dutt.

With such a historic start, industry watchers now expect Dhurandhar 2 to dominate the box office in the coming weeks. If the current momentum sustains, the film could potentially rewrite lifetime collection records as well.
