Despite Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar continues to stay strong at the box office, director Sriram Raghavan says the spy thriller does not fit into his creative space. Speaking in an interview with The Hindu ahead of the release of his new film Ikkis, Raghavan explained that even though the film is well crafted , he does not support one successful format rule as a director.
Raghavan said that Dhurandhar which stars Ranveer Singh is well made and has strong performances but, he feels that it follows a different cinematic language.
Raghavan explained this by referring to old spy film. Earlier movies like James Bond staring Sean Connery and Roger Moore were lifted more towards fun and light hearted. Over the time these film became more serious, and Dhurandhar represents one such format and it is not the only way to make spy movie, He said. Copying it just because of its success is not something He promotes and understands.
While Raghavan shares his views, he also praised Aditya Dhar and made it clear that he Enjoys watching his films. Both the directors have won National Film Awards in the same year, Dhar for Uri: The Surgical Strike and Raghavan for Andhadhun. Raghavan also said that although they both have different sensibility, he respects his craft and storytelling.
Raghavan’s thoughts are also reflected in his upcoming film Ikkis. The films is a biographical war drama based on the life of Arun Khetarpal, the youngest recipient of India’s highest military honour, the Param viral Chakra. Raghavan’s comments makes it clear that success does not change his filmmaking choices.
