Actors Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas had a close call just minutes before they stepped onto the red carpet at the 98th Academy Awards. The couple who arrived together for Hollywood’s biggest night were nearly involved in a small mishap while being driven to the venue in a golf cart.
A video that surfaced on social media shows the couple being transported to the ceremony venue near the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. In the clip the golf cart appears to speed up as staff members rush to get them to the red carpet on time.
During a sharp turn, the vehicle suddenly tilted and for a brief moment one of its wheels lifted off the ground. Both Priyanka and Nick held on as the cart rocked but the driver quickly regained control and stabilised the vehicle preventing any accident.
According to reports, the couple’s Sprinter van was not allowed to drive through the security perimeter near the venue. As a result, organisers arranged a golf cart to take them the rest of the way to the red carpet.
Despite the brief scare Priyanka and Nick appeared calm and in good spirits. Just before reaching the venue, Priyanka even shared a short video giving fans a peek at their pre-Oscars moments.
In the clip, Priyanka can be heard saying, “We’re going to the Oscars. It’s very adventurous.” Nick jokingly added “I am going to play golf. I don’t know about you.”
The couple later made a stylish entrance on the red carpet turning heads with their glamorous looks.
Priyanka wore a stunning white Dior gown with a strapless neckline and dramatic ruffled detailing along a thigh-high slit. She completed the look with a statement diamond and emerald necklace from Bvlgari’s high jewellery collection.
Nick complemented her look in a classic black tuxedo.
During the ceremony Priyanka also took the stage with Spanish actor Javier Bardem to present the award for Best International Feature Film. The honour went to the Norwegian movie Sentimental Value, adding another memorable moment to the evening.
Despite the unexpected scare before their arrival, Priyanka and Nick’s appearance at the Oscars turned into a glamorous date night and one of the highlights of the star studded event.
