Actor Priyanka Chopra has spoken candidly about the challenges she faced during the peak of her career in the Hindi film industry and how those experiences eventually pushed her to explore opportunities beyond India.

In a recent appearance on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast hosted by Amanda Hirsch, Priyanka reflected on the phase when she started considering a move to the West. The actor shared that while she was working consistently in India she began to feel creatively limited and wanted to explore what the global entertainment industry had to offer.

Talking about what triggered that shift in perspective Priyanka said she was also thinking about representation. She pointed out that there were only a handful of Indian actors working in Hollywood at the time including Mindy Kaling and Aishwarya Rai. That made her question why more Indian talent wasn’t visible internationally and whether she could carve out a space for herself there.

During the conversation Priyanka was also asked about reports of strained professional relationships within the Hindi film industry during that period. Responding to the topic, she explained that while every career comes with its share of struggles she prefers to move forward rather than remain stuck in negativity.

“I am someone who just doesn’t like staying in the s**t because then you get used to the smell” she said, adding that she strongly believes in shifting when life becomes difficult. According to the actor, resilience is key allowing oneself to feel the pain but eventually moving forward and finding a new direction.

Priyanka admitted that there was no clear roadmap for her when she decided to try her luck in the West. With very few precedents to follow she chose to rely on her work ethic and confidence in her craft. She said that stepping onto any set with a filmmaker or co actor was never intimidating because she believed in her ability to stand her ground.

The actor’s international journey began in 2015 when she landed the lead role in the American television series Quantico. The show introduced her to a global audience and opened the door to several Hollywood projects.

She later made her Hollywood film debut with the 2017 action comedy Baywatch where she starred alongside Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. Since then, she has appeared in international projects such as Citadel, Love Again and Isn’t It Romantic.

Priyanka currently lives in the United States with her husband, singer & actor Nick Jonas and their daughter, Malti Marie. She was recently seen in the R-rated pirate adventure The Bluff alongside Karl Urban which premiered on Prime Video in February.
