Sunny Deol’s much awaited period drama Lahore 1947 has reportedly undergone a significant title change. According to recent reports, the film will now be called Batwara 1947, a move that is said to reflect the broader emotional and historical context of the story.
The decision to rename the film was reportedly finalised recently as the makers wanted a title that highlights the human tragedy of India’s Partition rather than pointing to a specific geographical location. The change is also believed to help the film avoid potential political sensitivities ahead of its planned Independence Day release.
Produced by Aamir Khan and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film is set against the backdrop of the turbulent period of 1947 when India was divided. The story reportedly explores the emotional and social upheaval experienced by families during the Partition.
Sunny Deol is expected to play a central role in the film, with the director having envisioned him for the character from the very beginning. The cast also includes Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh in important roles.
