Saif Ali Khan has shared his honest thoughts about nepotism in Bollywood and the criticism faced by his son Ibrahim Ali Khan after his debut film. The actor said that while he will always support his children he believes there is a limit to how much help he should offer them because they already come from a privileged background.
Speaking on a YouTube conversation with his sister Soha Ali Khan, Saif reflected on the advantages star kids have in the film industry and admitted that the access they get is “incredibly unfair” compared to outsiders trying to break into Bollywood.
The discussion also touched upon the ongoing debate around nepotism, which first gained widespread attention when Kangana Ranaut raised the issue during her appearance on the talk show Koffee with Karan.
Saif said that while opportunities may come easily to those from film families, it ultimately depends on how they use those chances. According to him, audiences become frustrated when someone continues to get opportunities despite not delivering strong performances, while many talented outsiders struggle to get noticed.
He also spoke about his own background. Saif is the son of legendary actor Sharmila Tagore and former Indian cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, and he acknowledged that being born into such a family naturally opens doors in the industry.
Talking specifically about Ibrahim, who made his debut in 2025 with the film Nadaaniyan Saif admitted that the film received heavy criticism and that it is important for his son to learn to navigate the industry on his own.
“I will always support all my children, but there is also a limit,” Saif said during the conversation. He explained that he sometimes feels he shouldn’t stand beside Ibrahim and “hold his hand” during tough moments because he already enjoys advantages due to his family name.
“You have already got so much because of who you are, so you need to do this on your own,” Saif added.
Saif’s daughter Sara Ali Khan is also part of the film industry and has previously faced trolling for being a star kid. Both siblings represent the third generation of their family working in cinema.
