Rumours about the equation between Vijay and Trisha Krishnan have resurfaced once again after the two actors were spotted together at a wedding reception in Chennai this week. Their joint appearance has sparked fresh speculation among fans about a relationship that has been discussed in Tamil cinema circles for years but has never been confirmed by either actor.
The actors attended a reception hosted by entrepreneur and film producer Kalpathi S. Suresh and Meenakshi Suresh for their son on Thursday evening.
Vijay opted for a gold toned silk shirt paired with a traditional veshti, while Trisha wore a white and gold silk saree with red accents on the border. She styled the look with a sleeveless red blouse and an emerald necklace. Photos and videos from the event quickly spread across social media, prompting fans to revisit long standing rumours about the actors off-screen bond.
Vijay and Trisha first shared screen space in the 2004 blockbuster Ghilli directed by Dharani. The film was a remake of the Telugu hit Okkadu and became a massive commercial success.
Following the popularity of their pairing, the two went on to work together in films such as Thirupaachi, Aathi and Kuruvi.
During that period, they were often seen sharing a friendly rapport at promotions and public events. However speculation about their relationship also began circulating around the same time.
Some online discussions later suggested that the actors stopped working together after Kuruvi due to an alleged fallout though neither actor ever confirmed such claims. Both maintained that they were simply good friends.
Interest in their relationship resurfaced in recent years, largely due to fan interpretations of Trisha’s social media posts.
In March 2022, the actor posted photos from what she described as a solo trip to New York. One of the pictures showed two pairs of shoes leading fans to speculate that Vijay might have been travelling with her.
Later that year, Trisha was also seen wearing a ring that some social media users believed resembled an engagement ring. These claims, however, were never verified.
Speculation intensified again in 2023 when Trisha attended the first day first show of Vijay’s film Varisu and reportedly joined a private celebration later.
The rumours grew stronger when the two reunited on screen after nearly 14 years in Leo, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.
Their on screen reunion instantly reminded fans of their earlier collaborations and reignited discussions about their long standing equation.
Before the release of Leo, Trisha spoke about her working relationship with Vijay in an interview with The Hindu.
She said their comfort level comes from knowing each other for over two decades.
“I first met Vijay when I was 19 or 20. When you’ve been friends with someone for over 20 years and you work together again, it feels like coming back home. That easy equation between us still exists,” she said.
At the film’s success meet, she once again spoke warmly about him, comparing the experience to meeting an old school friend after many years.
At the same event, Vijay praised Trisha for maintaining her position as a leading actor for more than two decades.

He also jokingly referred to her as “our princess Kundavai,” drawing cheers from fans in the audience.
The moment quickly went viral online, with many viewers seeing it as another example of their close rapport.
The renewed attention around the actors comes amid reports about Vijay’s personal life.
According to details cited in a divorce petition, Vijay’s wife Sangeetha Sornalingam alleged that she discovered in April 2021 that he was involved in an adulterous relationship with another actress.
The petition states that attempts at reconciliation did not succeed and describes the marriage as having “irretrievably broken down.”
Vijay married Sangeetha on August 25, 1999, years before he rose to become one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars. Trisha was engaged to Chennai based businessman Varun Manian in 2015, though the engagement ended within five months.
She was also briefly linked to actor Rana Daggubati, who confirmed during a 2018 appearance on Koffee with Karan that the two had dated for a short time. Despite years of speculation and fan theories, neither Vijay nor Trisha has publicly confirmed being in a romantic relationship.
