Malaika Arora has opened up about a deeply personal chapter of her life, revealing that her decision to divorce Arbaaz Khan in 2017 invited judgment not just from the public, but also from those closest to her.
In a recent interview with India Today, the actor and entrepreneur spoke candidly about the backlash she faced after ending her 19 year-long marriage. Malaika shared that during that phase, almost every choice she made was questioned, including by family members and friends she expected support from.
“I faced a lot of judgment and backlash, not just from the public, but even from my friends and family. I was questioned about all my choices at that point,” Malaika said.
Despite the criticism, Malaika remains firm that choosing her own happiness was the right decision. She admitted that while she didn’t know what the future held at the time, she was certain that stepping away from the marriage was necessary for her emotional well-being.
“I didn’t know what was in store for me, but I knew I needed to make that move in my life. It was important for me to be happy. People often ask, ‘How can you put your happiness first?’ But I was okay being on my own,” she added.
Malaika also clarified that her divorce has not made her cynical about love or marriage. While she is not actively seeking to remarry, she remains open to the idea if it feels right.
“I do believe in marriage, but that doesn’t mean it’s meant for me. If it happens, great. But I’m not seeking it. I love my life, I love love, and I’m open to nurturing something beautiful if it comes naturally,” she said.
The actor further emphasized that she is content with where she stands today emotionally independent and at peace with her journey. Currently, there is no confirmed update on Malaika Arora’s relationship status. She was previously in a high-profile relationship with actor Arjun Kapoor, which reportedly ended in 2024. Meanwhile, Arbaaz Khan recently tied the knot with his stylist, Sshura Khan.
Malaika’s honest reflections have resonated with many, sparking conversations around personal choice, societal expectations, and the courage it takes to prioritise one’s happiness.
