Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj is not backing down when it comes to his latest release O’Romeo. Even though the film has received mixed reactions from critics and audiences the director has made it clear that he is proud of what he has created and has no regrets at all. Starring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri O’Romeo hit theatres last week but has not yet crossed the ₹100 crore mark worldwide. However that hasn’t affected Vishal’s confidence in fact he believes that the film will eventually become one of the most successful projects of his career.

In a recent interaction with PTI Vishal openly addressed the criticism surrounding the film. He said that he is “not ashamed” of O’Romeo and is instead “very proud” of it. The director also mentioned that he deliberately created a story that blends violence with intense emotions and he stands by that choice.
According to him the film represents the kind of storytelling he truly believes in.

Talking about the negative reviews Vishal even added that he hopes the film’s success will break the hearts of critics who didn’t appreciate it. His bold statement shows how strongly he feels about the project and its potential. On the box office front, O’Romeo had a decent opening collection of ₹9.01 crore on its first day. The film saw some growth over the weekend but experienced a noticeable dip soon after. Despite that, it managed to pick up again during the weekdays taking its domestic total to around ₹49.41 crore. Globally the film has earned about ₹75.80 crore till now.

Interestingly the film has already crossed the lifetime collection of Deva which reportedly earned ₹55.8 crore worldwide.

O’Romeo is produced by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and is said to be inspired by the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai by Hussain Zaidi. The film features a strong ensemble cast including Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani, Farida Jalal and Vikrant Massey.

Despite the controversies and mixed feedback Vishal Bharadwaj remains confident. For him O’Romeo is more than just box office numbers, it is a film he believes in deeply.
