Actor Mrunal Thakur recently opened up about her journey in Bollywood and how difficult it was for her in the beginning. Starting her career nearly 15 years ago, Mrunal shared that being an outsider in the industry was not easy. She had no film background, so she had to work extra hard to get noticed.
In a recent interview, she said that earlier she felt shy about asking for work. But with time, she understood that if she wanted good roles, she had to speak up and approach filmmakers directly. She believes that her courage to ask for opportunities is one of the main reasons she is where she is today.
Mrunal revealed that her upcoming film Do Deewane Seher Mein happened because she personally reached out to director Ravi Udyawar. After watching his film Mom, she told him that she wanted to work with him. She even confidently asked him when they could do a film together.
The film is backed by filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, which makes the project even more special.
She also shared that Aditya Dhar was the first director she ever approached for work. After watching his recent film Dhurandhar, she remembered how nervous she was when she first asked him for an opportunity. At that time, she did not even know how to properly ask for roles. But she was clear about one thing, she wanted to be seen and remembered.
Mrunal said that opportunities did not come easily to her. She had to “create” them by meeting directors, expressing her interest, and showing her passion. According to her, when directors see that an actor is truly hungry for a role, it changes their mindset. They feel more confident casting someone who is ready to give their best.
She believes that being vocal and confident is very important, especially for outsiders in Bollywood. Instead of waiting for offers, she chooses to take action.
Do Deewane Seher Mein is about an arranged marriage between two people who are dealing with personal and physical insecurities. The story focuses on love, vulnerability, and self-acceptance. The film also stars Siddhant Chaturvedi in the lead role and is set to release in theatres on 20 February.
Through her journey, Mrunal Thakur shows that hard work, courage, and confidence can help someone build their own path in the film industry.
