We Stand With Him: Sonu Sood Backs Rajpal Yadav Before Court Hearing

As actor Rajpal Yadav awaits his bail hearing in a ₹9 crore cheque bounce case, he has received public support from fellow actor Sonu Sood. On Monday morning, just hours before the court hearing, Sonu shared an emotional note on social media, praying for a positive outcome.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, Sonu wrote that it was an important day for “our brother Rajpal Yadav bhai.” He said he hopes that things move in the right direction and that Rajpal gets the relief he deserves. Calling him a “rare talent and a wonderful soul,” Sonu also urged everyone to keep supporting him and not let the momentum fade.

This is not the first time Sonu has stood by Rajpal. Earlier, when the actor’s legal troubles became public, Sonu offered him a role in his upcoming film along with a small signing amount. He clearly mentioned that the amount was not charity, but a matter of dignity. According to Sonu, when someone from the film industry is going through a tough phase, others should stand together and show support.

Rajpal Yadav is currently lodged in Tihar Jail due to multiple cheque bounce cases. His legal problems began in 2010 when he reportedly took a loan of ₹5 crore from a Delhi-based company to finance his directorial debut Ata Pata Laapata, which was released in 2012. After the film failed at the box office, he faced difficulty in repaying the loan. Several cheques issued by him reportedly bounced, leading to a case under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.

In 2018, a court convicted Rajpal and his wife in the matter and sentenced him to six months of simple imprisonment. Though he was granted temporary relief in 2024 and asked to clear the dues which had increased to nearly ₹9 crore the court later observed that most of the amount remained unpaid despite several chances.

Recently, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma directed the actor to surrender, stating that leniency cannot be given endlessly, even to celebrities. His last request for more time to arrange funds was also rejected. The next bail hearing is scheduled for Monday.

As the legal battle continues, Sonu Sood’s public message has once again shown how important support and unity can be during difficult times. While the court will decide the legal outcome, the film industry’s response highlights the human side of such situations.
