A Mumbai court has passed an interim injunction restraining popular YouTuber Ajey Nagar, widely known as Carry Minati, from publishing or circulating any allegedly defamatory or objectionable content against filmmaker Karan Johar. The order also extends to Meta Platforms and other associated parties to prevent further dissemination of the disputed material.

The development comes after Karan Johar approached the court over a roast video uploaded on Carry Minati’s YouTube channel titled Coffee With Jalan. The video, reportedly inspired by Johar’s popular celebrity chat show Koffee With Karan, allegedly included abusive language and derogatory remarks targeting Bollywood nepotism, with specific references to the filmmaker.

After hearing the matter, Judge Pandurang Bhosale observed that the content appeared defamatory on a prima facie basis and required immediate intervention. The court also issued John Doe orders, which provide protection against unidentified individuals who may circulate or re circulate the video across social media platforms.

In the ad interim order dated February 9, Judge Bhosale stated that the defendants appeared to have made defamatory statements and used vulgar language against the plaintiff. The court directed that the video be taken down immediately and restrained the defendants from creating or sharing similar content until further orders.

The injunction marks a significant legal move in the ongoing conversation around online content, satire, and the boundaries of free speech. While roast culture and parody content remain popular on digital platforms, this case highlights the legal scrutiny such content may attract when it allegedly crosses into defamation.

As of now, neither Carry Minati nor his team has issued an official public statement responding to the court’s order.
