Punjabi actor Sonam Bajwa, who recently made her Bollywood debut with Housefull 5, has finally spoken about the criticism surrounding the film, particularly regarding the portrayal of women. While the movie received significant attention, it also drew mixed reactions, but Sonam has made it clear that she stands firmly by her decision and has no regrets.
Addressing the backlash, Sonam shared that when actors step into Bollywood especially those coming from outside the industry they don’t always have the privilege of choosing “perfect” or ideal roles. She explained that sometimes taking up a commercial film becomes a necessary step to enter the industry, gain visibility, and understand how Bollywood functions.
To further explain her point, Sonam referenced Alia Bhatt’s early career. She pointed out that even Alia played a conventional Bollywood heroine in her debut film, yet that did not limit her growth or prevent her from becoming one of the most respected actors in the industry today. According to Sonam, a single film cannot define an actor’s talent, potential, or future.
The actor also revealed that she was fully aware of the nature of Housefull 5 before signing the project. For her, the film was not about making a statement but about gaining exposure, experience, and learning the dynamics of working in Bollywood. She believes it is unfair to judge an actor solely on the basis of their first film, especially when it belongs to a commercial franchise.
Through her candid response, Sonam Bajwa highlighted an important reality of the film industry that growth takes time and careers are built gradually. By owning her choices and remaining confident about her journey, the actor has made it clear that Housefull 5 is just the beginning, not the final word on her Bollywood career.
