Karan Johar has officially declared himself a Dhurandhar fan and not just casually. At Anupama Chopra’s book launch event Dining With Stars, the filmmaker didn’t hold back while praising Aditya Dhar’s blockbuster action thriller starring Ranveer Singh.

Reflecting on his cinematic year, Karan said he started 2025 loving Saiyaara, but ended the year completely awestruck by Dhurandhar. Calling it one of the most impactful films he has watched recently, Karan confessed:

“I was blown away by Dhurandhar. It makes you feel like, oh my craft is limited. Oh my god, look at the use of background music!”

He explained that what impressed him most was the subtlety of direction. According to KJo, despite high-end execution, the storytelling never once felt like it was made to show off technical brilliance.

“What I loved was that the director wasn’t self-aware. He wasn’t trying to flaunt his craft. Yet, it was seamlessly shot. Every frame was beautiful without calling attention to itself.”

He even admitted that the film compelled him to introspect his own filmmaking abilities, something he views as a positive push to evolve.

“It made me question my ability as a filmmaker and that’s always a good thing,” he added with a smile.

All Eyes Now on Dhurandhar 2

With Dhurandhar breaking every major box-office record, becoming the highest-grossing film of Ranveer Singh’s career, expectations are sky high for the sequel.

The spy-action world established by Aditya Dhar has already gained a loyal fanbase across India and overseas. And now, as Dhurandhar 2 gears up for a grand release in March 19, 2026, audiences and the industry are equally excited to see what explosive action and storytelling the franchise delivers next.

Karan also praised other major projects like Lokah, but emphasized that Dhurandhar remains the film that “shook him creatively” this year a rare compliment coming from a master storyteller himself.
