Mouni Roy has publicly called out alleged harassment she faced at a recent public event in Karnal, Haryana. Taking to her Instagram Stories on Saturday, January 24, the actor shared a detailed account of what she described as an extremely disturbing experience, highlighting the unsafe conditions performers often face at such gatherings.
Mouni revealed that the incident began as she entered the stage area. Sharing her experience, she wrote,
“Had an event in Karnal last night, and I’m disgusted with the behaviour of the guests, especially two uncles who are well-aged enough to be grandparents.”
She further described how several male attendees touched her inappropriately while trying to take pictures.
“As the event started and I walked towards the stage, uncles and family members (all men) put their hands on my waist to click pictures. I didn’t like it, and when I said, ‘Sir, please remove your hand,’ they didn’t listen.”
According to Mouni, the situation escalated once she began performing.
“On stage is an even better story. Two uncles stood right in front, making lewd remarks, showing lewd hand gestures, and name-calling.”
She added that when she tried to politely signal them to stop, the response was shocking.
“I realised that and first politely gestured to them not to do it, to which they started throwing roses at me.”
Despite attempting to continue professionally, the harassment did not stop.
“When mid performance I walked towards the stage exit but immediately came back to finish my performance. They didn’t stop even after that and no family or organisers moved them from up front.”
Expressing the emotional toll of the incident, Mouni wrote,
“If someone like me has to go through this I can only imagine what new girls starting to work and do shows must be.”
Calling out the absence of accountability, she added,
“I am humiliated, traumatised and want the authorities to take action for this intolerable behaviour.”
She also reflected on the dignity of artists and questioned societal hypocrisy.
“We are artists trying to earn an honest living through our craft. Wonder what these men would do if their friends behaved the same with their daughters, sisters or any family members. Shame on you!”
Mouni further alleged that some men recorded her performance from inappropriate angles and criticised the lack of basic respect shown to performers.
“We go to these events to be part of someone’s celebration. We are their guests, and yet this is how we are treated.”
Her statement has sparked widespread outrage and support online, with many demanding stricter safety measures and accountability from event organisers to ensure that performers are protected from harassment at public events.
