Javed Akhtar, who is a famous poet and lyricist, was very clear-cut with his criticism when he said that the choice of the producers to make Border 2 starring Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, reuse the songs from the 1997 movie rather than hiring a new composer was totally wrong. Would the producers even confess that Akhtar would talk about his input in the lyrics directing for the sequel since he is so against the idea of using up great songs that have become the viewers’ favourites due to the strong bond created over the years?
He went on to declare in a very loud voice that reusing the original songs making only the slightest of changes is nothing but sheer proof of one’s lack of creativity and bravery. He further said that the producers must either use the original songs as they are and also confess that it is very hard to create the same impact of music nowadays or just put off the new scores completely.

Besides, he reminded the audience that the earlier war films had successfully introduced new music even if without relying on nostalgia and thus, the viewers still have the capacity to accept the newness.
Nowadays, these views have caused a very heated discussion on the Bollywood industry’s reliance on remake and nostalgia content in general, especially when talking about sequels to old films, which was precisely the case when Javed aired his opinion.
