Rani Mukerji recently opened up about motherhood and shared a funny yet honest take on raising her daughter Adira Chopra, who belongs to Generation Alpha. While speaking on Zoom’s YouTube podcast series Spotlight Sessions, Rani spoke about how parenting today is very different from how she was raised.
Rani revealed her 10 year old daughter Adira is quite outspoken and confident. Laughing about it, the actor said that Adira “fires” her and that she actually listens. She added that parenting styles have changed with every generation.
Rani recalled how she used to get slapped by her mother while growing up but joked that she could never do that with Adira. “She would slap me back” Rani said, adding that Gen Alpha kids are fearless and strong-minded. She even admitted that she is “very scared” of her daughter but in a sweet and loving way.
Rani also spoke about Adira’s relationship with her films. She explained that her daughter finds it difficult to watch movies where Rani is sad or crying. Adira enjoys watching her mother dance or appear happy on screen. Some of Adira’s favourite films include Hichki, Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic and Bunty Aur Babli. However, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was hard for her to watch because Rani’s character dies in the first scene.

Rani Mukerji married filmmaker Aditya Chopra in a private ceremony in April 2014. The couple welcomed their daughter Adira in December 2015 and have always kept their personal life away from the spotlight.
Talking about her work, Rani is all set to return as Shivani Shivaji Roy in Mardaani 3. The film written by Aayush Gupta and directed by Abhiraj Minwala is scheduled to release in theatres on January 30, 2026.
