Pakistani actor Imran Abbas has sparked a heated debate on social media after calling out members of the Pakistani audience who are praising the Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar. Taking to Facebook, the actor shared a strongly worded post expressing his disappointment over what he described as the glorification of a film with anti-Pakistan and anti-Islam undertones.

In his post, Imran stated that while Dhurandhar may be technically well-made, no level of craftsmanship can outweigh self-respect. According to the actor, supporting a film that he believes spreads hatred against an entire nation and religion is equivalent to accepting a “slap on the face,” and therefore should not be celebrated as entertainment.

Imran further clarified that his criticism was not rooted in a lack of open-mindedness or intolerance toward art. Instead, he argued that praising such content reflects what he termed “beghairati” — a loss of dignity and self-respect. He also pointed out that this behaviour has nothing to do with education, stating that he has witnessed both educated and uneducated individuals supporting the film.

“This is not open-mindedness,” Imran wrote, adding that the situation has proven that education alone does not define awareness or integrity.

The actor’s remarks have divided social media users. While some supported his stance and echoed concerns over national and religious representation, others argued for separating cinema from politics and viewing films purely as works of fiction.

As Dhurandhar continues to perform strongly at the box office and generate international discussion, Imran Abbas’s comments have added a new layer to the ongoing debate around art, nationalism, and audience responsibility.
